Take a journey back in time with Landgate’s Map Viewer

Ever wondered what your suburb looked like back in the old days and how it has changed between then and now.

Landgate has developed a new Map Viewer using its vast stocks of historical aerial images to provide a great way to show how your street or town looked when it was first established compared to how it looks today.

Landgate's Chief Executive, Mike Bradford said many people are unaware that Landgate holds a considerable archive of historic aerial imagery for Western Australia. "Images collected over more than fifty years have been brought together in Map Viewer".

Map Viewer provides a unique picture of how Western Australia has developed over the years, with early images dating back to 1948 and the City of Perth over half a century ago.

Mr Bradford said Landgate's new Map Viewer is an easy way to find, view and purchase old and new Aerial imagery of Western Australia. "A simple address search delivers the latest aerial photographs; users can then select from numerous older images available on their chosen location. With a click users of Map Viewer will also be able to create a virtual movie of the changes to where they live, a cascade of images transitioning from the old to the new".

Mr Bradford said Map Viewer brings together all Landgate's aerial imagery into one free service which is easy to access and navigate.

A range of paid property products are also available through Map Viewer including; Titles, survey plans, sales history reports and valuation information. Try Landgate's Map Viewer today at www.landgate.wa.gov.au and discover a unique way of accessing Western Australia's location information.
