More than 200 Landgate staff participated in the organisation‟s 20th annual Fun Run held at John Forrest National Park on Friday 26 October 2012.
In 1992 the first Fun Run was a circuit around Perth's Swan River foreshore when Landgate was located in the city as the then Department of Land Administration (DOLA). 1993 saw the department move to Midland and the event was relocated to John Forrest National Park.
At the time, Landgate was blazing a trail in the area of 'wellbeing' in the workplace.Landgate employee Roy McManus, who coordinated the Fun Runs from 1992 to 2006, said the event was an opportunity for staff to bond and was Landgate's initial wellness program.
"When we were in the city, the department was spread out over a number of buildings and locations. With the relocation to Midland, there was suddenly one large body of staff, many of whom had never met before," said Mr McManus.
The event is designed for everyone. Staff can choose to walk the 3km heritage trail or run a 6km route through the park to the picnic grounds. Some staff choose to be bussed directly to the picnic area to cheer their colleagues as they arrive. The event concludes with a picnic lunch.
Landgate Chief Executive Mike Bradford said the event reinforced the organisation‟s values to provide a workplace that celebrates community, growth and learning.
"The Fun Run is a tradition that keeps us connected with our past and is an opportunity for newer employees to feel part of the broader Landgate community," said Mr Bradford.
"Landgate employs more than 700 people so events like this celebrate who we are and our achievements."
Staff participating in the event pay a fee towards bus hire and the picnic lunch.
Landgate is Western Australia's primary source of land information and geographic data, providing the accuracy government, business and individuals rely on.
