Law Society of Northern Ireland President Imelda McMillan recently visited Landgate to see the Western Australian land registration process firsthand.
Imelda said her visit to Landgate has helped her gain a clearer understanding of how Ireland's Land Registry can develop its own e-registration system.
"As Western Australia's system is a number of years ahead of our own, I was very interested to see how Landgate has dealt with challenges along the way to reach the stage its system is currently at," she said.
Imelda said the topics discussed were especially relevant to her, as a lawyer who has dealt with property matters for the last 25 years.
"The Council of the Law Society of Northern Ireland has a number of different committees to deal with all aspects of legal services," she said.
"I chaired the Non Contentious Committee and the Conveyancing and Property Committee prior to taking on the Presidential role within the Council.
"As chair of both committees, I worked alongside representatives from the Land Registry system in Northern Ireland and developed a strong relationship with our own Registrar, Patricia Montgomery.
"The information and assistance given to me by Landgate staff was exceptional and I hope to relay that information to our various committees within the Law Society of Northern Ireland."
