Landgate's December 2012 Business Activity Profile, released today, shows considerable improvements in property document lodgements compared to December 2011.
Total documents lodged in December 2012 increased by 14.2 per cent compared to the same month in 2011. Transfer documents lodged in December 2012 increased by 9.7 per cent from the previous month and increased by 31.4 per cent compared to December 2011.
The number of mortgages lodged also increased by 7.9 per cent from November 2012 and increased by 23.1 per cent compared to December 2011.
Landgate Chief Executive Mike Bradford said the December figures support the current trend in the 2012/13 financial year of improved property activity in Western Australia.
"First quarter figures for 2012/13 were 7.9 per cent higher than the same quarter in 2011/12; likewise the October to December 2012 figures increased by 16.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2011."
"Our data supports recent comments from industry indicating buyer confidence and property activity is improving."
The number of subdivisional lots created in December 2012 also increased by 4.4 per cent from the previous month and increased by 48.3 per cent compared to December 2011.
Landgate's Business Activity Profile reports on all property related documents lodged within Landgate and is a barometer of the state of the property market in Western Australia.
The December 2012 Business Activity Profile is available on Landgate's website. It provides the daily average of all documents lodged, with sections detailing transfers, mortgages, caveats, searches and other categories of property related documents.
