Implementation of rigorous processes for identity verification continues to be a critical priority for Landgate.
Following a thorough review and stakeholder consultation by the Australian Registrars National Electronic Conveyancing Council in 2015, the national verification of identity standard for land transactions conducted electronically was recently updated. Landgate’s intention is to align its verification of identity requirements for paper-based land transactions with the national standard.
The ‘Registrar and Commissioner of Titles Verification of Identity and Authority Requirements – Paper’ seeks to improve the integrity of information in the Land Titles Register, reduce the risk of fraud and improper dealings through the positive identification of all parties to the transaction, and remove confusion for customers and agents operating in both electronic and paper environments.
It is proposed that the Requirements will commence on 4 April 2016 and replace the Registrations Practice Manual Chapter 14: Western Australian Registrar and Commissioner of Titles Joint Practice, Verification of Identity.
A copy of the proposed Requirements is available on the Landgate website.
