Western Australia’s property market has had a subdued start to the year with the number of documents lodged with Landgate in January at the lowest level since 2011.
January’s Business Activity Profile (BAP) showed that 20,925 documents were lodged at Landgate, a 16 per cent decline from December 2016 and a three per cent decline from January 2016.
Landgate Chief Executive Jodi Cant said that January is traditionally a quiet period for document lodgements because of the festive season.
She said the low figures were consistent across all types of documents.
“The number of mortgage documents lodged with Landgate in January 2017 was 22 per cent lower than January 2016. Plus, the number of new lots dropped 37 per cent from January 2016,” Ms Cant said.
